Australian Wine Dinner - 19th October 7pm

Bellarmine Wines is one of the Top 100 Wineries of Australia as rated by renowned wine writer and judge, James Halliday. Bellarmine produces all estate grown wines and is located in the pristine high quality cool climate of Pemberton in Western Australia. The vineyards were established in 2000 over 20 hectares and the first wines were made in 2004 since when they have been consistently rated highly including the rating of a “red 5 star” winery (i.e best of the best).  Much of the wines success must be put down to the skills of the winemaker, Diane Miller, who has been with Bellarmine since the first vintage, having previously been head winemaker at a winery in the Great Southern, where she made wines for more than 20 clients, including Bellarmine.   Perhaps she knew what potential there was!

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines & Spirits Course

The WSET Level 2 course is the most popular course run by the internationally regarded Wine & Spirit Education Trust. It is aimed at enthusiastic individuals with some knowledge of wines but who want to know more.

This course runs for 6 Monday evenings from 25th September 2017 to Monday 30th October 2017 at Thos Peatlings Fine Wines in Bury St Edmunds. The final assessment is an externally set and marked 1 hour 50-question multiple choice examination which will be taken on the final evening of the course. It is expected that delegates undertake their own private study throughout the course to back up the topics covered in the sessions

The course focuses on the key grape varieties and regions of the world, different styles of wines, and the production of spirits and liqueurs. Students are also taught how to taste wine professionally using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting. Each session will be supported by relevant tasting samples and at least 24 different wines will be tasted throughout the course.

You don’t need to have achieved the Level 1 course to take this course, you just need a keen interest in wine. We currently have a 100% pass rate for our students taking this course!

Wine Dinner Thursday 25th May, 7pm

We are delighted to welcome Mary-Lou Nash, Cape Wine Master, winemaker and part owner of Black Pearl Wines in South Africa over to the UK to conduct a tasting of her fabulous wines from Paarl. Tickets include a three course dinner with our partners Casa del Mar, in their restaurant. The menu has been designed especially to compliment her wines which Mary-Lou will present with each course.

A bit about Black Pearl Wines:

Mary-Lou Nash is the co-owner, winemaker, and viticulturist at Black Pearl Wines. She received a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, with a major in anthropology from the University of New Hampshire in 1989, and then taught English in Japan for two years followed by two years travelling in Asia before settling in Paarl. Teaching herself entirely, she planted 4, 5 hectares of Shiraz in 1997 and 3 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1998 and established her family-run boutique cellar in 2001. Nash completed her first brandy course in 1998 followed by her Diploma with the Cape Wine Academy in 1999. In 2006 she received her wine evaluation certificate from Stellenbosch University followed by top marks in the Advanced Brandy Course at Van Ryn’s. Newly graduated Cape Wine Master, Mary-Lou was also the 2011 winner of the Van Ryn’s Award for Brandy Excellence, achieving the highest score in the section of the Cape Wine Masters’ examination, devoted to brandy. Says Cape Wine Academy principal, Marilyn Cooper: “To win the Award for Brandy Excellence one must have an exceptional conversancy with brandy, both as a taster and in one’s theoretical knowledge. It requires not only dedicated study but passion, and genuine interest. As a self-taught winemaker, these are qualities Mary-Lou undoubtedly possesses and has had an opportunity to flaunt in this course.”

Big, Bold & Beautiful!

At many of our tastings the most popular wines are the biggest tasting ones, so if you are lover of bold flavours then we have designed this wine tasting just for you! And as it’s March and usually cold and wet, what better than a food and wine tasting with big flavours and big tastes? 

In conjunction with Casa del Mar restaurant we are offering an evening of big wines with big foods to match. We’ll taste some of the best full-bodied white and red wines from around the world, many sourced and imported exclusively by us, together with a selection of tasty canapes to match the wines’ flavours. The wines have been specially chosen as examples of what wine-makers can produce to bring out the tastes of ripe fruits and sunshine through careful grape selection and different maturation techniques. 

Following the tasting we’ll move on to the restaurant itself (just next door!) to continue with a specially designed meal and of course more big wines from our excellent wine-list.

It should be a great evening of wine tasting, learning, eating, and fun! Not to be missed!

It’s coming up to that time of year when celebrations are in order, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with bubbles and great food!

Following last years successful Sparkling tasting we are giving you the opportunity to once more taste some exceptional sparkling wines from around the world and also enjoy a Champagne-themed apres-tasting meal  at Casa del Mar restaurant!

We stock an exceptional range of Sparkling wines, and the tasting will include examples of top Champagnes from Louis Roederer, Bollinger, and Dom Perignon, as well a great examples of Sparkling wines from Italy, South America and elsewhere.

Maria, owner & chef of Casa del Mar, has also been inspired by a trip to Champagne to create some fabulous Champagne-themed dishes that will be served in the restaurant following the tasting

South African Wine Tasting with the Suffolk Wine Academy

Hello wine lovers,

Although the start of June has hardly been ‘flaming’ good news is just around the corner!

It’s simple...Rosé wine means Summer’s here!!

But with so many dodgy (and by that I mean cloyingly sweet or tasteless) Rosé wines around we thought it would be a good time to highlight what winemakers around the world can produce when they use the right grapes in the right ways. So from the classic Rosés from Provence to unusual varieties from South America, with both still and sparkling examples, we will be tasting all that’s best as far as the world of pink wines go.

Nicholas from Thos Peatlings returned from a visit to South Africa earlier this year raving about the great wines that he found there. Now that stock has arrived this is your opportunity to try some great examples of classic Cape varieties, quality wines that you certainly wont have tried before, and some really unusual wines that deserve your attention (a single-fermented sparkling wine anyone...?). LANGUEDOC TASTING - Thurs 25th Feb

We are delighted to be joined by Wendy Gedney who will be talking about the wines of the Languedoc along with a tasting of wines from the area.

Wendyruns a successful Vineyard Tours business in the Languedoc-Roussillon area of Southern France called Vin en Vacances. She is also a qualified WSET tutor having attained the WSET Diploma in 2006 and taught these qualification for many years in the UK. She also hold the Sud de France Languedoc-Roussillon masters certificate and is a member of the AWE (Association of Wine Educators). Her style is relaxed, informal and enthusiastic and her speciality is of course the wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon.

She has published a book called “The Wines of the Languedoc Roussillon” which is the only one of its kind in English that describes all of the appellations in the Languedoc and gives a detailed yet entertaining insight into the history of the wines, the terroir, the grape varieties and the culture and cuisine of the Languedoc.

Italy is the worlds biggest wine producer and it’s going to be difficult to try and show what this country has to offer in one evening, but we’re giving it a go.

So if you’re a Vermentino vulture, a Barolo botherer, a Prosecco princess or an amorous Amarone lover, there will be something you’ll already love and lots of other wines to start up a relationship with… who knows where it could lead!
